On March 9th, Mayor Stephen Hagerty proclaimed March 20, 2020 Creative Arts Therapy Day within the City of Evanston. Read the full proclamation below.
Whereas, the week of March 12-21, 2020 is national Creative Arts Therapy Week and exists to educate the public on the benefits of the creative arts therapies; and
Whereas, the annual Creative Arts Therapy conference hosted by Institute for Therapy through the Arts (ITA) on March 20-21, 2020 brings an international community to the city of Evanston to learn from each other; and
Whereas, ITA’s Creative Arts Therapy conference will draw attention to marginalized populations, including those with disabilities, chronic mental illness, substance abuse disorders, diverse gender identities and sexuality, and minority racial groups;
Now, therefore, I, Stephen Howard Hagerty, Mayor of the City of Evanston, Illinois do hereby proclaim March 20, 2020 as “Creative Arts Therapy Day” and call upon the people of the City of Evanston to help increase awareness of art, dance/movement, drama, and music therapies so more people can receive the help they need in improving their mental health or cognitive functioning; and work toward developing a culture of humility toward marginalized groups in our community.
