Dr. Marni Rosen Presents at Social Living Conference in Milwaukee, WI

October 14, 2016 by ITA Staff

Dr. Marni Rosen and Dr. Ben Rader,

Dr. Marni Rosen and Dr. Ben Rader,

Our Art Therapist and Practice Manager, Marni Rosen, Psy.D ATR, presented at the Social Living Conference in Milwaukee, WI on the use of Art Therapy with individuals diagnosed with Autism.

The Social Living Conference, hosted by Mount Mary University on Sept. 23rd and 24th, 2016, was a gathering of healthcare professional, teachers, and community members to address and discuss the health impact of society and the health benefits of community. At a conference focused on increasing social connection within the community, Dr. Rosen presented to a group of counselors and therapists on how comic booking can harness a client’s cinematic or thematic interests to increase social communication and expression for individual’s diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. All too often individuals diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum are behaviorally prompted to modify or refocus their interests, but in this case presentation the use of these interests motivated the client to address several academic and social goals including sentence syntax, event sequencing, and environmental cues.

Dr. Marni Rosen also had the opportunity to meet with a mentor and past practicum intern supervisor, Dr. Ben Rader. He also happens to be the man behind the creation of the Social Living Conference. Check out their blog and their community activism, http://milwaukeeaffiliate.blogspot.com/
