ITA’s nationally recognized internship program provides clinical internships in the fields of Drama Therapy, Art Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, and Music Therapy. Clinical internships at ITA meet all of the requirements set forth by the following national associations: The American Music Therapy Association, North American Drama Therapy Association, The American Art Therapy Association, and The American Dance Therapy Association. ITA also provides administrative internships for college students who are interested in Creative Arts Therapy, but studying in other fields such as psychology, music, theater, dance, art, etc.
During the course of each year, ITA trains 3—4 clinical interns, 10 administrative interns, and several volunteers. These students learn from ITA’s skilled and experienced team of Creative Arts Therapists who provide training through an integrated approach, incorporating multiple creative arts therapy modalities in clinical supervision and treatment. ITA’s diverse client population and variety of services make it an optimal internship site for students desiring a broad training experience.

Clinical Internships at ITA
The Institute for Therapy through the Arts (ITA) provides clinical internships in the fields of drama therapy, art therapy, dance / movement therapy and music therapy. Students who are currently enrolled in an accredited college degree program for one of creative arts therapy fields are eligible to apply.
ITA’s mission in training future creative arts therapists is to provide an enriching learning experience preparing interns for their futures as professionals in the fields of creative arts therapy. ITA interns will graduate possessing advanced clinical skills making them a competitive candidate for a variety of professional opportunities. 100% of ITA interns are employed within a year of graduation.
Music Therapy Internship:
ITA’s music therapy internship is one of the national roster internship sites approved by the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). Students who complete the music therapy internship are eligible to sit for the Music Therapy Board Certification Exam, administered by the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Drama Therapy Internship:
ITA’s drama therapy internship is designed for students seeking to fulfill the 800-hour Alternative Training Program required by NADTA under the supervision of a Registered Drama Therapist (RDT).
ITA has partnered with Center for Creative Arts Therapy to offer practicum and internship placements for students pursuing credentialing as Registered Drama Therapists. Please visit CCC’s website for more information on their training programs.

Art Therapy Internship:
ITA’s art therapy internship is for students who are currently enrolled in the first or second-year master’s level of an accredited art therapy program. Interns will be supervised by a Registered, Board Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC). Interns will also have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in other creative arts therapy modalities.

Dance / Movement Therapy Internship:
ITA’s dance/movement therapy internship is for students who are currently enrolled in an accredited dance/movement therapy program and need to fulfill their clinical field placement or internship requirement in order to graduate. Interns should be working toward pursuing credentials as a Board Certified Dance / Movement Therapist (BC-DMT).

Administrative Internship:
The Institute for Therapy through the Arts currently provides administrative internships for college students who are interested in creative art therapy, but majoring in other fields (psychology, music, theater, art, etc.). Students who are enrolled in a non-creative arts therapy degree program are eligible to apply.
The philosophy of the administrative internship is to provide students with opportunities to experience and gain exposure to creative arts therapy. Students assist ITA therapists in therapy sessions and perform daily administrative tasks under the supervision of the Administrative Director. Accounting Administrative Internship:
We are looking for driven students who are will be able to provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports.
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Summarizing the organization’s current financial status by collecting information, preparing a balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other reports
- Maintaining accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures
- Reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information
- Securing financial information by completing database backups
