In Our First Year at ITA…
On July 7th, Executive Director Jenni Rook engaged ITA’s Board of Directors in singing a modified version of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” a part of her annual report. Five of the board members were present and another dialed in to the meeting. Jenni provided instruments for the board members to play during the song. Board members were also asked to contribute the song by providing lyrics about ITA’s many accomplishments from this year. The song’s verses listed the following achievements: ITA becoming a nonprofit, finding new funding, hosting training workshops, and serving many clients. Jenni also used the song as an example of an intervention frequently used in music therapy sessions. She explained how music therapists frequently put lists into song to address short term memory and recall. The board members were active participants and did their best to memorize the list as it grew longer (we will pretend we didn’t see them writing everything down!).
