Music Therapist Amanda Ziemba and Music Therapy Intern Ava Marvin Head Creative Student Experiences
This fall, ITA was thrilled to partner with Evanston Special Recreation (ESR), to host an after-school music program for students with special needs. The 7-week program was held at Park School in Evanston once a week and was designed to support and build positive social interactions between group members, encouraging group members to engage with each other through the shared experience of music. The students in the group were excited to create and play with music therapist, Amanda Ziemba, and ITA music therapy intern, Ava Marvin, in a wide variety of musical experiences each session, getting the opportunity to create music together through instrument play, movement to music, and group singing.
ITA is excited to continue our work with Evanston Special Recreation this Spring. The next 7-week session block begins January 23rd, 2018 – for more information about Evanston Special Recreation programs and how to sign up for the music therapy group, please contact Evanston Parks, Recreation and Community Services (www.cityofevanston.org).
Anyone interested in attending the programs can register in a few ways: in person at one of the Evanston Recreation Centers, over the phone by calling one of the recreation centers, calling 311 (if an Evanston Resident) or (847)448-4311 if outside Evanston, or you can go to the City of Evanston website, www.cityofevanston.org and click on the link “I want to register for a class.”
