ITA Out and About: Rocking out in Downtown Chicago

September 28, 2017 by ITA Staff

ITA, GES, and Novo Nordisk Band Together for Families Impacted by Hemophilia

ITA was invited by GES (Global Experience Services) and Novo Nordisk to participate in an event in downtown Chicago for children and families impacted by hemophilia. The night was filled with fun musical activities for the children and brought in families from across the nation and the greater Chicago area. ITA facilitated two therapeutic music experiences for children and adolescents: The Rocker’s Theme Song and The Rocker’s Triumph Song.

ITA Program Manager and Training Coordinator Amanda Ziemba assists a child with the guitar.

Kids were encouraged to dive into song-writing and instrument-playing with the Rocker’s Triumph Song, creating lyrics designed to bring out their strengths and creativity. Once the lyrics were created, they had the opportunity to choose an instrument and rock out to their brand new song.

ITA Clinical Music Intern Ava Marvin poses with the Novapalooza sign.

Following the experience, several youth and family members posed with their favorite instrument in the polaroid photo station. The Rocker’s Theme song gave kids the opportunity to engage in a jam session with ITA music therapy interns and try out a wide variety of instruments and sounds while making music with peers and their families.

The evening was an energetic and fun experience with singing, smiles, and lots of laughter. ITA enjoyed the opportunity to team up with GES and Norvo Nordisk and bring this great event to the children and families who attended.
