Parishoners Reach Halfway Point in Creating Recycled Bottle Cap Mosaic
Institute for Therapy Through the Arts is working with the First Presbyterian Church of Evanston on a recycled bottle cap mural! We have come a long way since first choosing the Psalm “Under the refuge of his wings” and the image of a bird in flight. While relaxing before lunch, Souper Saturday guests join ITA and First Presbyterian staff in making personal collages inside plastic bottle caps that serve to create the bottle cap mural. With the help of the guests we have already outlined half the bird and started filling in parts of our mosaic mural. Here are some of the thoughts the participants have shared as they have made the collages and placed the bottle caps in the mosaic.
I feel peacefuller doing this.
I’m leaving my mark.
It (the art work) will be there for the rest of my life and I have my mark on it.
We are grateful for the generous help that the First Presbyterian Church community and guests have made in collecting bottle caps that create our image! The completed mural will be stored at First Presbyterian Church where guests and visitors can marvel at their creation, providing a sense of community and connection.
