Through a generous grant from the Rotary Club, ITA and Argentium Care have partnered to provide music-based Memory Cafés to the residents of the greater Evanston area. Memory Cafés are safe, comfortable spaces for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s and their caregivers or family members to socialize, engage in activities, or attend educational presentations together.
ITA and Argentium Care kicked off their first Memory Café this past September at the Evanston Public Library. Participants met with ITA’s music therapist, Amanda Ziemba, to learn how music can be a powerful and engaging tool for connecting family members with a loved one who is experiencing memory impairment. Participants learned a variety of techniques and methods for communicating through music when memory has been impaired.
ITA is looking forward to the next upcoming Memory Café, which will be held on November 1st at the Levy Center. Learn more about upcoming events and other resources related to memory care at the Memory Café website.
