Rush University Medical Center Begins Autism Study on Social Skills

November 30, 2016 by ITA Staff

From the Huffington Post:

“The Autism Assessment Research Treatment AND Services (AARTS) Center is now offering a unique study of oxytocin and social skills groups. In this study, we are pairing oxytocin, a hormone thought to improve social learning in individuals with ASD, and an empirically supported social cognitive therapy curriculum (NETT: Nonverbal synchrony, Emotion recognition, Theory of mind Training).

Oxytocin + social cognitive skills groups (i.e. NETT) will be compared to social play groups. Children will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatment groups (i.e. like flipping a coin). Each treatment group lasts 12 sessions and includes child-focused and parent-focused components. We are currently recruiting verbally fluent children ages 8-11 years old with ASD.”

Read the full article at the Huffington Post here.  Learn more about the study at Rush Medical Center’s website here.
