Creative Knowledge Center Manager & Music Therapist
Akash is a music therapist with several years of experience working with children, teens, and adults. He specializes in music therapy and counseling approaches that help clients feel more confident and regulated, improve their social relationships, and cope better. In addition to music therapy, Akash uses Rogerian client-centered therapy, child-centered play therapy, and relational-cultural therapy when approaching depression, anxiety, trauma and adjustment disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and ADHD, and addictions. Akash brings warmth, patience, and playfulness to his sessions, and he believes that people heal, grow, and learn new skills the best when met with empathy, openness, and acceptance.
As the manager of the Creative Knowledge Center, Akash organizes professional development, training, supervision, and consultation opportunities for individuals and organizations in the community, including ITA’s annual conference. Akash enjoys speaking about anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and healing-centered practices in the creative arts therapies. His written work has been published in Sociocultural Identities in Music Therapy (2021) and Colonialism and Music Therapy (in press).
