Part Time Music Therapist
Akash is a part-time music therapist at the Institute for Therapy through the Arts. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology at Illinois Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in Music Therapy & Counseling at Drexel University. Through training and practice in inpatient behavioral hospitals, Akash has developed clinical experience in working with adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, and psychosis. Akash also completed a clinical practicum at Frankie’s World Medical Daycare, which serves infants and children with developmental disabilities in Philadelphia, PA. In addition to his clinical work, Akash has worked with LGBTQ youth at The Attic Youth Center in Philadelphia, where he utilized music-making and visionary fiction to facilitate social justice work and identity development. Akash has presented his Master’s thesis, “Music and Wellness with a South Asian Mental Health Support Group” at the first annual South Asian Mental Health Conference in Union City, CA and enjoys membership in the American Music Therapy Association and Asian American Psychological Association.
