Karen Jordan of ABC 7 Chicago Visits ITA

January 8, 2020 by ITA Staff

ITA was recently featured by Karen Jordan of ABC 7 Chicago! Karen and her team sat down with two of our clients, Bella and Dan, to learn about how art therapy and music therapy helped them.

a close up of art supplies and musical instruments with Karen Jordan and Marni Rosen talking in the background and a cameraman behind them. Bella began her journey at ITA as an anxious 8th grader unable to speak to most of her peers or teachers. Through the help of art therapy with Dr. Marni Rosen, she has grown into an outgoing young woman who is studying to become a theatre producer.

Dan suffered a stroke just a few years ago and is now dealing with the effects of Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech, two conditions that affect his ability to communicate verbally. Through music therapy Dan has been relearning how to speak and now has over 60 phrases he can say independently– much more than he could say upon starting his work at ITA when he only had three phrases.

Thank you Karen and ABC 7 Chicago for taking the time to learn more about our work at ITA and thank you to our clients for sharing their stories.
