Announcing a new Musical Bridges to Memory™ program:

Program Overview
This program is designed for individuals aged 45 and older who may be experiencing memory loss, along with their family member or designated caregiver. It includes:
- Opportunities for meaningful connection between caregivers, participants, and board-certified music therapists in a relaxed, music-rich environment
- A 75-minute interactive music experience led by professional musicians and board-certified music therapists
- A 30-minute weekly support and education session for caregivers
Sessions are designed to spark memory recall, increase emotional expression, and support positive communication – both during the program and beyond.
We are currently recruiting 8 dyads (each consisting of a person who may be experiencing memory loss and a family member or caregiver) for our in-house summer session.

Musical Bridges to Memory™ (MBM) is a one-of-a-kind, evidence-based, set of programs designed to support individuals living with memory loss and dementia, and their care partners, by restoring connection through the power of music.
Developed by the Institute for Therapy through the Arts (ITA) in partnership with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s Music and Medicine Program, MBM blends live music, therapeutic techniques, and caregiver education to improve communication, enhance relationships, and uplift quality of life.
Our Mission: Bridging relationships between people with dementia, their families, and the greater community who serve through live musical interactions training, and research in music-based approaches.
Why It Matters
Scientific research shows that music has a profound impact on individuals with dementia. In a three-year study supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, MBM participants showed:
- Improved verbal and nonverbal communication
- Enhanced mood and decreased negative symptoms
- Increased caregiver satisfaction and relationship quality
MBM is more than a program—it’s a pathway back to connection.
Musical Bridges to Memory™ is generously funded by an anonymous donor, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Dementia Society of America.
