ITA Presentations and Workshops at AccessChicago

On July 13th, ITA will be presenting at AccessChicago 2016 at Navy Pier! Access Chicago is an expo for people of all ages and disabilities put on by the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. It “promotes the independence and inclusion of people with all types of disabilities by showcasing Chicago’s wide range of accessible venues, products, and services.” ITA staff member Keith Whipple and clinical intern Paige Elgart will be leading experiential sessions throughout the day. Get Social: Music Therapy for Social Interaction and Self Expression

Experience positive self-expression while making meaningful social connections with others through music. During this introductory Music Therapy workshop, participants will experience how music making can be a successful experience for all, regardless of musical background, challenge, or ability.

Get On the Same Page: Find Joy and Self-Expression within Group Art Therapy

Group art creation can be a wonderful! However, sometimes finding the balance between self and others and between independence and collaboration can be difficult. This workshop will be an introduction to a group art therapy method, which will allow participants to explore, reflect, and find ways to achieve satisfaction amidst creative compromise.

Therapies That Move You: Drama Therapy and Dance/Movement Therapy

No matter what you challenge or ability level, physical and imaginative self-expression creates pathways to better mental health. This workshop will provide a playful introduction to Drama Therapy and Dance/Movement Therapy. Experience how both therapies employ similar and different methods to let mind and body communicate powerfully together.
