A look at the use of music in stroke recovery

On July 22nd and 23rd, ITA’s School Programs Manager/Music Therapy Internship Director, Rebecca West, was a guest lecturer at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago’s (RIC) Stroke Course.

The RIC Academy holds this annual interdisciplinary conference to provide physical, occupational, and speech therapists with the most recent research, technological, and clinical advances related to stroke rehabilitation. Rebecca co-presented on the benefits of using music in therapy alongside Dr. Preeti Raghavan, who is a Physician-Scientist at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Physical Therapy, New York University School of Medicine, and Anna Palumbo, a music therapist at the Institute for Music and Neurologic Function. Rebecca, Dr. Raghavan, and Anna also included examples of their own research or pilot groups exploring the benefits of using music for individuals recovering from stroke.
