Alzheimer’s Day and Memory Care

July 10, 2019 by ITA Staff

ITA continues to work hard to improve the lives of individuals affected by dementia. On May 10th, Jeffrey Wolfe, Director of Community Programs, along with ITA Advisory Council member, Dr. Borna Bonakdarpour, and Musical Bridges to Memory Research Assistant, Aimee Karstens, presented the Musical Bridges to Memory research poster at the annual Northwestern Alzheimer’s Day. This poster included the complete data from our music intervention research program at Silverado Care in Morton Grove.

Brad Drozdowski, ITA music therapist and Volunteer Coordinator, recently began providing weekly music therapy group sessions at Presence Maryhaven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center’s memory care unit. This program is possible thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of Maryhaven. Brad will also be providing another series of our Melodic Pathways music therapy program in partnership with Family Services of Lake County. The program integrates memory care staff, residents’ family members, and residents with Dementia at Autumn Leaves, Gurnee Hills. A huge thank you to the Spungen Family Foundation for supporting this program.
